SEATTLE - Sophomore
outside hitter Haleigh Haratyk (Corona, Calif., Centennial HS) had one of her
best performances of the season in slamming down 28 kills on Friday night, but
it wasn't enough to lift the CSU Bakersfield Volleyball team to a victory as it
fell 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) to Seattle.
After dropping the first two games the Redhawks, the
'Runners rallied back to win game three behind nine kills from Haratyk, who moved up two spots in the Division I rankings
this week to No. 10 with an average of 4.57 kills per set. CSUB battled in the
fourth set, but Seattle was able to pull away and even the season series
against the Roadrunners (1-1).
"After the first set our defense picked up, but we need to execute a more balanced offense," said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson. "On Saturday we are going to need some other players to step up."
Sophomore Lisa Bartsch
(Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) put up a season-high number with 44 assists as the
lone setter for CSUB.
Aiding Haratyk, whose
season-high total in kills is 29, on CSUB's attack were Brittney Hopley (Jr.,
Thornhill, Ontario, Wilfrid Lauer Univ.) and Tika Smith (R-Jr., Sweetwater,
Texas, Sweetwater HS) with 10 and nine kills respectively. Libero Lauren
Holderman (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) lead the 'Runners on
defense with 11 digs.
The
Roadrunners came out on top the first time they played Seattle this season,
downing the Redhawks 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23) at the Oregon State Active Ankle
Challenge on Sept. 4.
The
Roadrunners will take on Seattle again on Saturday night in at 7 p.m. with the
winner of the match taking the season series.
