Our staff is committed to the principles of ethical conduct, integrity, and excellence, which we believe will best prepare our  student-athlete for personal growth both during and post their competitive years as a Roadrunner.  We strive to prepare safe and comprehensive training programs for our student athletes which include, but are not limited to: increasing sports performance ability, reducing the risk of injury, proper rehabilitation and education on proper nutritional choices.

Athlete Punishment

CSU Bakersfield Performance and Conditioning staff comit to NEVER taking part in any workout based punishment or intimidation towards its student athletes.
A student athlete will never be asked to take part in a workout that is designed to have them fail or work to a level that is unsafe for their personal well-being.
Workouts designed by our staff are calculated and crafted in a way to maximize athlete performance.  Our staff fully supports the CSU Bakersfield policy on anti- hazing.

Weight room dumb bells Strength in Power

Student athletes can expect programs designed by our staff to be ground, multi-joint, free weights and machine based in their persuit to improve their overall strength and power. We utilize scientifically proven methods when developing training programs drawing from weightlifting, powerlifting, calisthenics, and other disciplines to deliver programs tailored to our athletes benefits in each sport.

Nutritional Supplements

CSU Bakersfield Sports Performance and Condititioning Department frimly believes in and encourages a food first culture amongst our student athletes to maximize the athletic potential and well-being. Respecting that athletes may have specific dietary supplements to meet nutrient needs we have a partnership with the CSU Bakersfield Health center to provide wellness and health education.

In accordance with NCAA Division I rules and regulations, CSU Bakersfield does not provide supplements that are impermissible per NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2 (g) or that contain substances from the NCAA Banned Drug List.

Athletes are reminded to educate themselves on proper eating habits, training responsibly and getting proper amounts of rest leading up to and following training sessions, practices and game.
Athletes are responsible for what they put into their body and are encouraged to consult with Athletics Department Staff prior to consuming any supplement.

Resources
Fueling for Performance
Nutrition is critical for both academic and sports performance. A diet that is adequate in carbohydrate, protein, healthy fat, vitamins, minerals, and fluid is the foundation of day-to-day eating for overall health. As important as what to eat, though, is when a student-athlete eats. The right fuel at the right time influences how well they feel, learn, perform and recover.

More than a drink
Despite being more of a target for education programs, as compared to their non-athlete counterparts, collegiate student-athletes have been found to drink more and do so more often than the general collegiate student population. Neither the education efforts directed toward nor the competitive motivation of student-athletes seem to deter use. So what exactly is the harm of alcohol use for a student-athlete?

Sports Science Institute
As the Association's national center of excellence, the NCAA Sport Science Institute works closely with the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports and is committed to serving and educating student-athletes and our membership. The SSI aims to provide college athletes with the best environment for safety, excellence and wellness through research, education, best practices, and collaboration with member schools, national governing bodies, key medical and youth sport organizations, and the public and private sectors.
