CAPITAL PROJECTS

The CSU Bakersfield Athletics Department is committed to providing the best possible student-athlete experience. One area that calls for continuous focus and improvement is athletics facilities. The Kegley Center, opened in the Fall of 2016, was the first addition of permanent square footage for the athletics department this century. With 16 teams and more than 300 student-athletes, along with the academic and competitive demands of Division I athletics, improving facilities is more important than ever.

In June of 2017, CSU Bakersfield Athletics released a Master Plan for Athletics Facilities that will serve as the roadmap for future projects. The plans call for construction of new sports performance center and a sports medicine complex, as well as modernized locker rooms and team rooms at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center.

Thanks to continued commitment from the community and the University, the facilities CSU Bakersfield have expanded and improved over the last decade. Tha Bakersfield community has a long history of supporting facility improvements at CSUB.  Donor supported facilities dot the entire campus, particularly in athletics.

In the Division I era, the Roadrunners added the sports of baseball and women's beach volleyball. Both teams received substantial gifts from community members to develop outdoor competition facilities; Tom Hardt funded and served as the contractor for Hardt Field (opened in 2008) and the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the SRC (opened in 2014) was largely funded by Steve and Lori Barnes, both beach volleyball enthusiasts.

Improvements have been significant over the past five years and continue with major projects on the way. The Icardo Center has undergone a number of improvements since the basketball team returned to the facility, including a renovated lobby, all new seating, and the installation of a new center hung video board and sound system in the fall of 2017. Construction of new dugouts at the CSUB Softball Complex is the latest in a number of improvements. Pase 2 renovation of the Kegley Center for Student Success is schedule in the fall of 2023!

Private funding is necessary for the CSUB Athletics department to realize our vision to provide the best for our students. For more information on how to become involved in improving CSU Bakersfield Athletics Facilities, contact Scott Frasnelly at (661) 654-6226 or email
