`Runners Drop Midweek Swing to San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State Bakersfield built early leads in all three sets, but the Roadrunners could not slow an efficient San Francisco attack in a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 loss Tuesday at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

How it Happened

CSUB answered a 4-2 deficit in the first set with three straight points, including an Analiese Gagliano ace and a Broszat kill, to move ahead 5-4. The `Runners later led 7-6 and remained within three at 17-14 before San Francisco used a 3-0 run to create separation and went on to take the set.

The `Runners opened the second set with a 5-1 burst and stretched the lead to 6-2. San Francisco answered with four straight to tie the score and later used another 4-0 run to lead 12-9. CSUB fought back to pull even at 17, but the Dons then scored seven unanswered points before closing out another 25-18 set.

CSUB again started quickly in the third, building leads of 7-4 and 11-9. San Francisco responded with four straight points to move ahead 13-11, then used a second run to extend the margin to 16-12. The `Runners pulled within three once more, but the Dons scored nine of the final 12 points to finish the match.
