BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball team continued its hot-shooting streak, hitting better than 50 percent from the field in a 68-42 win over San Francisco State Saturday night at Rabobank Arena.
Bakersfield (10-10, 9-4 CCAA) connected on better than 50 percent of its field goals for the fourth consecutive game. It is the first time in more than two years that the Roadrunners have put together such a streak.
The 'Runners didn't shoot well early, however, and pesky SFSU (6-12, 2-11) hit enough three-pointers to stay close through most of the first half. Although the Gators never led, an Arcenio Ramirez three-pointer with 6:22 remaining in the first half pulled them to within two points at 18-16.
But a Rick Robinson (Ocho Rios, Jamaica/SE Illinois) dunk off a beautiful no-look pass from Richard Andrews (Kingston, Jamaica/SE Illinois) sparked a 9-0 run that gave Bakersfield its first double-digit lead at 27-16. The 'Runners extended their advantage to 34-21 at the half and then eased away throughout the second half for the victory.
Robinson came off the bench to lead a balanced 'Runner offense with 12 points. Andrews just missed his fifth career double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Alex Thomas led SFSU with a game-high 16 points. He was the only Gator to reach double figures Saturday night.
Bakersfield continues its five-game homestand Tuesday night when it hosts Cal State L.A. for a men's/women's doubleheader in
Rabobank Arena. the men's game will tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
