SEASIDE, Calif. – For the second consecutive season the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team struggled to gain a victory at Cal State Monterey Bay. For the second consecutive season, the Roadrunners played well enough with the game on the line to pull out a double–digit victory, winning 74–60 at the Kelp Bed in Seaside Saturday night.

With the win, Bakersfield improves to 2–0 in CCAA play (3–1 overall). The 'Runners remain one of only two undefeated team in conference play—along with Cal State Dominguez Hills—even though the schedule is less than 10 percent completed.

Sophomore guard Krista Arase led the way for Bakersfield, posting a game–high 20 points including four three–point field goals. Senior center Jessi Loring added an 11–point, 11–rebound double–double. Arase and Loring were two of five Roadrunners to score in double figures Saturday night.

For the second night in a row, Bakersfield came out lethargic. That didn't stop the 'Runners from racing to a lead against San Francisco State Friday night, but Monterey Bay made them pay by grabbing an early lead they only reluctantly relinquished in the closing moments of the first half.

Bakersfield grabbed tenuous control in the second half, but couldn't expand the lead until late in the game. The 'Runners kept the advantage in the five–point neighborhood until a pair of Kelley Tarver free throws sparked a quick 6–0 run that got the lead to double digits for the first time at 65–53 with 2:55 to play. The lead would stay above 10 points for the duration.

Bakersfield will take a break from CCAA play with four consecutive games against NCAA Division I competition beginning Tuesday at the University of Houston.
