Jones Posts Three Hits As McKenzie Wins Ninth

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI's to lead CSU Bakersfield (26-13, 10-3 WAC) past Dallas Baptist (20-18, 7-6 WAC) 10-4 Friday night.

Jones' two-out RBI single put the Roadrunners up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Michael Miller RBI ground out in the top of the third drove in an unearned run to tie the score. CSUB took the lead back in the bottom of the third when the team sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six runs. The Roadrunners added two more in the fourth. Miller drove in his second run of the game with a two-out double in the fifth but CSUB responded with a tally in the bottom of the inning. The Patriots scored twice in the sixth.

Jeff McKenzie (Sr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College), who entered the game second in Division I in victories, broke the school record for most wins in a season as the 6-0 lefty earned his ninth victory of the year (9-1). He broke the old mark of eight which was set by Mike McCarthy and teammate Jonathan Montoya (R-Sr., Chino Hills, Chino Hills HS) during the 2011 season. McCarthy struck out four over the first 6 2/3's before giving way to Taylor Aikenhead (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College). Aikenhead gave up two hits over the final 2.1 innings.

Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) reset the school record for being hit by a pitch in a game as he was plunked three times. The previous record was two which was held by 14 players. Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) both recorded two hits. Sanay and Chance Gusbeth (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) drove in two runs each

The Patriots did outhit Bakersfield 12-11, but committed three errors. Miller was 3-for-5 with three other players recording two hits.

The series between the Patriots and the Roadrunners continues Saturday at 6 p.m.
