Biography

2012 (REDSHIRT): Sat out season due to Tommy John Surgery on his left throwing arm.

2011 (JUNIOR): Reset the school records for most completed games (7) and wins in a season (8 tied with Mike McCarthy)...at one point, recorded five complete games in five straight starts...went 8 2/3 innings against Lafayette Mar. 19...started 16 games, going 8-5...tied with McCarthy for lead in games started and victories...struck out 86 (second on team) in 115.1 innings (second on the team)...opponents batted .245 against Montoya for the year.

2010 (SOPHOMORE):  Third on the team in wins with four (4-5) and was third on the squad in innings pitched (66.1)…started 10 of 16 appearances…scattered seven hits and struck out 10 in complete game victory over UC Santa Barbara May 4…only walked one against the Gauchos in the nine inning stint…posted eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings against Nevada Mar. 13…ended season with 58 strikeouts while only walking 35....SUMMER LEAGUE: Pitched in 18 games for the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League in the Summer of 2010…made two starts, going 2-1…third on the team in ERA (2.34)…tied for third on the team in saves with two…struck out 29 while walking 23 in 42.1 innings of work…opponents hits .238 during Montoya’s time on the mound

2009 (FRESHMAN):
Earned his first collegiate start and win on Feb. 21 against St. Louis...struck out five and scattered five hits for three earned runs in seven innings...earned CSUB’s first complete-game victory in 4-3 final against Fresno State (Apr. 4)...struck out seven, walked four and scattered five hits for two earned runs in nine innings...concluded the season with a team-high four wins...tallied 57 strikeouts in a team-high 82 2/3 innings.

HIGH SCHOOL:
Came to Bakersfield from Chino Hills High School where he was a two-time team captain...led the Huskies to the 2008 Sierra League title...first team All-Sierra League...All-Sierra League Academic Athlete...second team All-CIF Southern Section Division II...team placed sixth at the 2008 Anaheim Lions Spring Break Tournament...collected a 9-0 record and 1.80 ERA in 2008...also tallied 44 strikeouts in 62.3 innings pitched...participated in the Inland Valley All-Star Game and the Amateur Baseball Development Group SoCal Senior All-Star Series...2008 Perfect Game USA No. 1,018 ranked player in the nation...was named a 2007 Under Armour preseason All-American and a Teamonebaseball.com West Top 20 prospect...also earned first team All-Sierra League and team MVP honors in 2007...SUMMER LEAGUE: A member of the San Gabriel Valley Arsenal in 2008...earned a spot on the 2007 USA Junior Olympic Team...went 5-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 2007...winning pitcher for the Cal Rockies at the 2006 Mickey Mantle Regional Championship game...pitched a six-inning, no-hit shutout for the San Gabriel Valley South at the Babe Ruth 16U Regional game on July 12, 2007...pitched five scoreless innings for the Mariners scout team at the Mariners’ Cup Tournament in August 2007.

PERSONAL:  Born Nov. 19, 1990...mother is Angeliza Montoya...father, Fred Montoya, passed away in 2009...an art major.
