POCATELLO, Idaho — The
CSU Bakersfield Volleyball team battled hard, but fell to Idaho State 3-0
(25-20, 27-25, 25-21) on Friday night in a showdown that went down to the wire
in each set.
The Roadrunners hung
right with the Bengals, even leading late in the first and second sets, but
couldn't land the winning point. Sophomore outside Haleigh Haratyk
(Corona, Calif., Centennial HS), who is ranked No. 12 in Division I volleyball
with 4.58 kills per set, recorded 13 kills, while outside hitter Tika Smith
(R-Jr., Sweetwater, Texas, Sweetwater HS) added a season-high 11 kills.
"We put good pressure on their serve receive and forced their pin hitters to hit out of system shots cross court, but we didn't respond with consistant, aggressive defense nor did we execute offensively," said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson.
Senior setter Danielle Gong (Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) posted 26 assists for CSUB, while
sophomore setter Lisa Bartsch (Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) added 13.
Libero Lauren Holderman (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) scooped up
11 digs.
Freshman outside hitter
Molly O'Hagan (Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) returned from a hamstring
injury to play her first match since Sept. 18 to lead the 'Runners on defense
with six assisted blocks.
The Roadrunners had been
3-0 in their history against Idaho State, but fell to the Bengals in their
first-ever trip to Pocatello. The Bengals imporved to 11-12 on the season with
the win, while CSUB dropped to 6-16.
Up next on the schedule,
the Roadrunners will return to the road for back-to-back matches against
Seattle University on Nov. 4 and 5. CSUB defeated Seattle 3-0 earlier this
season at the Oregon State Active Ankle Challenge in August.
