CSUB Finish Strong in Four-Set Win

ABILENE, Texas – CSU Bakersfield volleyball put together a balanced offensive and defensive performance Saturday, defeating Abilene Christian 3-1 at Moody Coliseum. The Roadrunners hit .239 as a team, held ACU to .147 and finished with 12 total blocks to improve to 2-1 on the season.

How it Happened

CSUB established control early, turning a 2-2 opening into an 11-2 advantage in the first set. Gagliano's service ace helped extend the Roadrunners' run, while Lima produced two kills during the stretch. CSUB never trailed again in the set and closed it 25-14 behind a .100 hitting percentage and four blocks.

The Roadrunners carried the momentum into the second set, building a 9-5 lead and later stretching a 18-14 advantage to 23-18. Waite-Ward recorded four kills in the set, while CSUB's block continued to disrupt ACU's attack. The Roadrunners took the set 25-20 to move within one set of the match.

ACU responded back in the third, using a 5-0 run to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 13-10 lead. CSUB battled back to tie the set at 13-13 and again at 19-19, but the Wildcats scored three straight after a 21-21 tie and held on for a 25-22 win.

CSUB responded emphatically in the fourth set. After ACU pulled within one at 5-4, the Roadrunners gradually built separation and took a 17-12 lead. CSUB then answered every ACU push down the stretch, winning six of the final nine points to close the match 25-18. The Roadrunners hit .444 in the deciding set, finishing with 18 kills and only two errors.
