NORTHRIDGE, Calif ? A handful of
personal records and continued progress across the board highlighted
the CSUB men's and women's track & field team's performance at
the Northridge Invitational Saturday.
“We had another solid meet,” said
CSUB Head Coach Alan Collatz. “I'm pleased with our progression
right now.”
Steve Trojanowski recorded a personal
best in the hammer throw with a distance of 179-08, more than seven
feet further than his top throw from one week ago. The junior also
recorded a distance of 143-07 in the javelin.
Senior Brian Lopez turned in a season
best in the javelin, placing third with a mark of 185-11, while
Clayton Morovich and Derek Johnson turned in marks of 155-09 and
152-05 in the hammer throw.
Freshman Cameron Jost also set a
personal record, running the 400 meter dash in a tenth place time of
49.61.
On the women's side, sophomore Sheena
Cooper ran a solid 100 meter dash, finishing in 12.32. Collatz was
also pleased with sophomore Connie King who placed ninth (2:23.92) in
her first time running the 800 meter.
In the 1500 meter run, Christa McCann,
Katherine Patrick and Lina Nunez kept a tight pack, turning in times
of 5:05.69, 5:08.04 and 5:11.04, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman
Ke'Airra Jones, competing for the first time since this season, raced
to a 58.36, 16th place in the 400 meter dash. Jones, the
reigning Mississippi state high jump champion, turned in a third
place 5-03 mark in her collegiate debut.
The Roadrunners head to Los Angeles
next Saturday to take part in the USC Trojan Invitational.
