Roadrunners Conclude Big West Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Bakersfield Track & Field program wrapped up the final day of the 2025 Big West Championships on Saturday evening.

Makiah Parker claimed her first individual Big West title in the women's 200m. She became the first Roadrunner freshman in the Division I era to win an individual title in any conference championship. She broke her school record with a time of 23.26. 

Parker added a silver in the women's 100m with a time of 11.57. The freshman became the first Roadrunner to take home two medals at the Big West championship meet. She joined Miranda Miller (2022, 2023) and Kynnedi McCall (2024) as the only CSUB athletes to claim individual titles. With a total of 18 points, Parker also holds the school record for most points collected at a Big West championship meet. 

Jacob Yagers performed well in the men's 1,500m final. Yagers finished fifth overall with a time of 3:43.99. He was the first non-Cal Poly finisher as the Mustangs went 1-4 in the event. Yagers clocked in his third-best time ever in the finals. He had four team points, most on the men's side for Bakersfield. 

The women's 4x400m relay squad clocked in a 3:55.36 while the men's team finished 8th with a time of 3:18.93, beating UC Davis. 

On Friday, Javier Toro showed all-out grit with a sixth-place finish in the men's hammer throw. He threw a mark of 59.19m/194'2". Toro walked away with 3 points for the `Runners after returning from a serious leg injury.

Senior Tom Richardson placed eighth overall in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.94m/55'7". He earned one team point for the program.

Freshman Emilia Mandela put on a show in the women's 100mH prelims. She ran a lifetime best of 13.91 to qualify for the finals but ultimately missed out due to a DQ.

Julie Johnson narrowly missed the 400m finals by only 0.03 seconds. 

 

Final Results

Bakersfield's men's team scored a total of 9 points, finishing 10th in the conference. On the women's side, they garnered a total of 18 points and finished 11th overall. 

The program will compete in the NCAA West First Round, held this year at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas.
