Bakersfield, Calif. - The men's and women's track and field teams have been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, while senior Javier Toro earned individual honors as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
For the tenth straight year, the women's program has been recognized by the USTFCCCA. To qualify for such honors, teams must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Toro was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic athlete for the second consecutive year. He qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary meet for the second straight season after a historic year as a Roadrunner. He ranked 29th in the West Region for the hammer throw.
Toro is third on the CSUB all-time list for the hammer throw (212'10"/64.88m). He is also tenth on the all-time list for the shot put (57'2"/17.42m).
The San Joaquin, Calif. native, was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and Big West All-Academic Team. He finished the Spring semester with a 3.57 GPA as a business administration major.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a nominee must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season.
