Roadrunners Ready For NCAA West First Round

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Bakersfield Track and Field program will have three athletes competing in this year's NCAA West First Round, hosted by Texas A&M. The four-day meet will begin on Wednesday, May 28th, and will end on Saturday, May 31st. Javier Toro and Thomas Richardson both qualified in the men's hammer throw. Makiah Parker is the lone CSUB woman set to compete in two events.

In her first season in the blue and gold, Makiah Parker is set to compete in both the 100m and 200m at the regional meet. Parker holds the school record in both events, which she set at the Big West Championships. The freshman claimed the 200m gold medal at the championship meet and was runner-up in the 100m. Parker is only the third woman in CSUB Division I era to qualify for the NCAA's and is the only freshman to qualify.

Javier Toro is an NCAA qualifier in the hammer throw for the second year in a row. In 2024, Toro placed 40th at the regional meet. This year, he is going into the meet ranked 29th in the region. Toro holds the third-best mark in program history with a personal best of 212'10" (64.88m). The big West is sending seven athletes to the regional meet in the hammer throw.

Senior Thomas Richardson is set to make his NCAA debut in the men's hammer throw. He ranks 50th in the region for the event. Earlier this month at the Titan Tune Up, Richardson set a huge personal best with a mark of 204'5" (62.31m). He now holds the sixth-best mark in program history.

The NCAA has two regional meets, one in the West and the other in the East. 48 student-athletes are entered into each event, and the top-12 finishers at this week's regional meet will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 11-14.

The four-day meet will alternate men's and women's competitions each day, with the men competing on Wednesday and Friday, the women set to compete on Thursday and Saturday. The hammer throw event for Toro and Richardson will take place at 10:00 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday, May 28.

Parker's first event will be the 100m, set for 7:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, May 29. The 200m is scheduled soon after at 8:45 p.m. (CT).
