`Runners Outdoor Track & Field at Ben Brown Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor track and field teams gear up for the annual Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Roadrunners join near 20 programs this Friday and Saturday looking to build on a great start to the 2022 season.

Tom Richardson, Matthew Garrett, Jacob Whitby, Hugo Santana, and Axel Salazar headline the men's field events. Richardson, who recorded two personal best marks last week, will throw in the hammer and shot put again this weekend. Garrett will join him in both events.

Santana, Whitby, and Salazar will focus on hammer making for a strong viable group of scorers across both throwing events at the Ben Brown Invitational.

Curtis Threlkeld, reigning Big West Athlete of the Week, will drop down in distance from the 800-meter race to the 400m dash. Threlkeld is fresh off an 800m win that reset the Beach Opener meet record last Saturday.

Jesus Alverez and Ryan Bentley will compete in high jump while Bradley Bryant goes solo in triple jump.

Miranda Miller is expected to lead the women's outdoor team on Friday. She was the best vaulter at the Beach Opener a week ago breaking the meet record in the process. Miller, Julianne Finch, Alexa Schacher, and Kassidy Neptune will all look to score in pole vault this weekend.

Jessi Solis, who is coming off a personal best, will throw for the women in hammer.

Mariah LeSure will lead the women in sprints on Saturday. She was runner-up in the 100m race at Long Beach State last weekend and is looking to improve each meet in her final campaign with the `Runners.

Julia Stein and Riley Slayton will step on the track in both hurdle races on Saturday. Both Stein and Slayton had a Top 10 finish last week in their specialty the 400mH.

"I hope the team will build on the success of the opening meet," said Director of Track and Field, Cross Country, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "Many of the athletes are off to a good start and carry the momentum to the others lifting their performances. Head up and keep moving forward!"
