'Runners Set For Two Mid-Week Meets

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's track and field team is set for a pair of meets this week: the Cal State LA Twilight Open, Apr. 12-13, and the Mt. SAC Relays, Apr. 14. The Roadrunners will compete in the two-day meet in Los Angeles, Calif. with less than a month remaining until the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships while three men have qualified for Mt. SAC's competitive meet.

“The team has been competing well so far and we look to build on that success and prepare for the WAC meet,” said Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, CSUB's Director of Track and Field.

The 'Runner throwers will open the Cal State LA meet on Wednesday morning with the hammer throw and discus. “Micaiah Lugo is coming off of a nice personal best in the hammer,” said Mansur-Wentworth. “She'll be joined by Emmett Wirtz and Luis Mendez, who both set bests last week as well.”

The rest of the 'Runners will get back to action on Thursday with a full slate of track and field events. Freshmen Julianne Finch and Nick Zandes will kick the day off at 12:30 p.m. with the pole vault. Junior Susannah Vera is scheduled to compete in the high jump and make her collegiate debut in the 400m hurdles.

Freshmen Falon Wilson and Mariah LeSure will continue to represent the CSUB women sprinters this week. The pair will run in the 100m while Wilson will add the 100m hurdles and long jump and LeSure will tackle the 200m. On the flip side, Mansur-Wentworth is racing the distance squad in the 1500m to work on their speed.

On Thursday, CSUB's three men's jumpers, Tim Van Horn, Joselito Flores, and Justin McKinley, will kick off a busy week. Van Horn and McKinley will attempt the high jump while Flores will tackle the long jump. On Friday, the trio will head to the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif. as the group has qualified to compete in that meet. Van Horn and Flores will compete in the high jump while McKinley will take on the long jump.

Back at the CSLA Twilight Open, redshirt sophomore Gabe Gaeta is set to compete in the 400m hurdles while freshman Curt Threlkeld will run in the 800m. After a strong performance last week, Tristan Watson is scheduled for the 110m hurdles in Los Angeles.

Rounding out the expected top performers for CSUB at the Cal State LA meet will be Alec Benavides, who will compete in the javelin.

Live results are expected to be available for both meets. For links to those results, visit the CSUB track and field schedule page.
