• Cal State Bakersfield’s baseball team came home to host a non-conference series against a program that will join the Roadrunners in The Big West next season 
• Prior to the start of the season, Head Coach Jordon Banfield promised fans that his squad would play an exciting brand of baseball and they continue to deliver. 
  • The Roadrunners are second in the Big West in runs scored and Top 3 in several offensive categories. 
• CSUB’s hitters have belted 24 home runs this season, which puts the `Runners ranks as fifth-most in program history. 
• The `Runners enjoyed a pair of outfielders leading the way on offense this past weekend: 
  • Jacob May went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. 
  • Elgin Bennett batted .375 (3-for-8) with a pair of extra-base hits, 2 stolen bases, and a .500 on-base percentage. 
• CSUB has enjoyed back-to-back Big West series wins and is in prime contention for postseason play as the back half of the season arrives.

CSUB vs. Utah Valley 

• Bakersfield (13-18, 5-7 BW) dropped a 2-1, non-conference series against Utah Valley (14-16): 
  • CSUB 4, UVU 14 
  • CSUB 4, UVU 5 
  • CSUB 8, UVU 2 
• Utah Valley jumped out to an early, 5-0 lead in Game 1 of the series and never looked back as the Wolverine offense overwhelmed the `Runner pitchers. 
• Game 2 fared much closer, but a 3-run fifth inning gave Utah Valley the narrow lead they needed to earn the victory. 
• The Roadrunners rallied to close the series with a win and regain some momentum as the CSUB bats finally came alive at a rate the offense is used to. 
  • Bakersfield scored two runs in each of the first two innings, then made it an 8-1 advantage in the sixth. 
  • Evan Cloyd went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI to lead the way on Sunday. 

• The Roadrunner softball team continued the 2026 season with a conference home series against a familiar foe. 
• The 2026 edition of the CSUB softball team sees 9 returners welcome in 14 newcomers under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Alyssa Graham. 
• Senior Hannah Garcia led the `Runners offensively this weekend, going 3-for-7 (.429) with 5 RBI. 
• The CSUB pitching staff stepped up and delivered when Bakersfield needed it most, leading to the series victory. 
• With another Big West series won, CSUB is in prime playoff contention and would make the postseason if the season ended today.

CSUB vs. Cal Poly 

• The `Runners (8-28, 6-9 BW) earned a 2-1, Big West series victory against Cal Poly (10-24, 4-11 BW), defending the Roadrunner Softball Complex: 
  • CSUB 5, Cal Poly 8 
  • CSUB 3, Cal Poly 1 
  • CSUB 5, Cal Poly 4 
• CSUB looked in control of Game 1, but Cal Poly used 4 hits and 2 errors to put together a seventh-inning rally and steal the series opener. 
• In Game 2, Bakersfield broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on freshman Cailee Carr’s two-run homer. 
• In the Rubber Match, Cal Poly put together a late surge to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh. 
  • CSUB worked the bases loaded, then catcher Kayla Visser delivered a walk-off RBI single. 
• Third baseman Hannah Garcia was Bakersfield’s biggest offensive spark in a weekend that favored pitching. 
• Outfielder Kayla Whaley scored three times, going 4-for-10 on the series. 
• In the circle, freshman Cedes Saldana continued to shine as the `Runner ace, picking up wins in both of Bakersfield’s victories while pitching 13 innings on the weekend. 
  • Amber Estrada posted a strong outing in her start of Game 3, giving up just one earned run. 
  • Maya Ramirez closed out Game 2, earning her first save of the season. 

• The Roadrunner beach volleyball team continued the 2026 season with a multi-team event in Corpus Christi, Texas. 
• CSUB continues to build on being a competitive squad among The Big West, one of the toughest beach volleyball conferences in the country. 
• Cal State Bakersfield has enjoyed a trio of veteran leaders this season: 
  • Sisters Vivi Kaelin and Kendall Kaelin join junior Ella Ensign with 16-11 records on the season while competing against 7 nationally-ranked foes already.

CSUB vs. Islander Classic 

• The Roadrunners went 2-2 at the Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, closing out the second day of competition with a pair of victories.

• Bakersfield enjoyed a pair of `Runner duos going 3-1 on the weekend:

  • Flight 4: Ella Ensign & Vianna Garcia 
• CSUB’s third flight of Kylie Taylor and Olivia Ostler posted a 2-2 record across the four matches. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield’s track and field team competed in three different meets across two days. 
• The majority of the Roadrunners tackling a meet in La Jolla, Calif. 
• CSUB enjoyed several strong results, including individual victories and CSUB Top 20 all-time performances. 

Moorpark Open – Friday, Apr. 03 

• The Cal State Bakersfield throwers traveled down to Moorpark, Calif. for the Moorpark Open. 
• On the men’s side, Javier Toro continued to lead the pack with a first place finish in the men’s hammer throw. His mark of 64.68m (212’02”) was close to his personal best. The Roadrunners swept in the event with a second place finish from Daniel Hartman who marked in a PB. Adam Torres and Tyler Balgeman rounded out the `Runner sweep.  
• Toro returned on the field in the shot put where he also placed first overall with a mark of 16.64m (54’07.25”).  
• On the women’s side, Grace Padron placed third in the hammer throw after marking a 49.31m (161’09”). 

Stanford Invitational – Friday, Apr. 03 

• Jacob Yagers was the lone Roadrunner at the Stanford Invitational on Friday evening. The Bakersfield, Calif. native placed third in his heat with a time of 3:44.24.  
• The time was his fastest this season and was the third fastest he has ever run.  
• Yagers is the school record holder in the event and looks to continue to drop his record time of 3:42.51.  

UCSD Triton Invitational – Friday-Saturday, Apr. 03-04 

• A majority of the squad headed down to La Jolla, Calif. for the UCSD Triton Invitational. 
• The two-day meet had tough competition, but the Roadrunners showed out with multiple top-ten finishes over the weekend.  
• Makiah Parker led the way with a third place finish in the women’s 100m and finishing fourth in the 200m.  
• Rionna Wallace ran a season best in the women’s 200m with a tenth place finish.  
• Emilia Mandela ran a personal best and a CSUB #4 all-time in the women’s 100mH. Her time of 13.87 was good for fourth place. Mandela has now officially qualified for the conference championships later next month.  
• Francisco Felix crossed the finish line in 14:45.64 for the men’s 5,000m. Felix finished sixth overall.  
• Ivy Miller ran a season best in the women’s 400mH and is now qualified for the Big West Championships.  
• Freshman Adeline Rangel ran a personal best in the women’s 400m (57.71). Her time has qualified her for conference.  
• Skye Odom finished ninth in the women’s triple jump.
