BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's track and field teams will continue a busy spring season this weekend at the Cal Poly ShareSLO Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Roadrunner men and women will compete at the two-day meet, Mar. 24-25, continuing their hunt for personal bests and school records.
“The team is coming off of a great meet at Northridge last week,” said Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, Director of Track and Field at CSUB. “We're hoping to keep the momentum going at Cal Poly.”
All of CSUB's standout performers from last week's Northridge Invitational will be back in action this week on the Central Coast. On the men's side, high jumpers Tim Van Horn, Joselito Flores, and Justin McKinley will all be returning to the event this weekend while Curt Threlkeld will tackle the 800m race after a big win last week.
Gabe Gaeta will run in the 200m and 400m races, fresh off of a personal best in the 400m hurdles in Southern California. Alec Benavides will continue his great start in the javelin while Emmett Wirtz and Luis Mendez will compete in three events: hammer throw, discus, and shot put.
For the 'Runner women, Falon Wilson will lead the 'Runner sprinters in the 100m hurdles and 100m dash while Mariah LeSure will tackle the 100m and 200m. After posting a solid time last week while sick, Marina Emhoff looks to improve her best time in the 400m on Saturday.
After resetting the CSUB record in the pole vault, Julianne Finch will be back at it this week in San Luis Obispo, looking to improve upon on her own record mark. Micaiah Lugo had a PR last week and will compete in the hammer throw and discus on Friday.
Angel Valdez will highlight a group of distance 'Runners in her first outdoor 5000m race. Irma Torres and Paradise Pelzer will lead the 'Runners in the 1500m.
The Cal Poly ShareSLO Invitational kicks off Friday, Mar. 24, with the first set of throwing events. The meet continues into a full array of track and field events on Saturday, Mar. 25.
