MONTEREY PARK, Calif.--Mitchell Huxhold (So., Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) posted his third NCAA B Cut time and fourth school record on the final day of the MPSF Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Huxhold finished second in the 1650 by lowering his own school record in the race with a time of 15:08.61. His 1000 time (9:02.44) during the competition is also a school record. Huxhold now holds school records in the 200, 500, and 1650 events and posted NCAA B cut times in all three races during MPSF Championships.
"This was a great swim for Mitchell and could get him an invite to the NCAA championships," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "We will know in two weeks if he gets to go to Indianapolis. Mitchell's meet was nothing but spectacular."
The 400 free relay of Fran Cverle (Jr.
Zagreb, Croatia, Limestone College), Alex Daneke (R-Sr., Lodi, Calif., UC Davis), Mitch Wurm (Sr., Mesa, Ariz., Dobson HS), and Gabriel Bertrand (So.
Tibro, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium) recorded the second fastest time in school history, 2:58.98, to come in fourth.
"We finished the meet off strong with the 400 free relay, this will be one the fastest times in the country this year!" Hansen said.
Carson May (Fr.
Corvina, Calif., Damien HS) was 10th in the 1650 free (15:34.94). Troy Neklason (So., Seattle, Wash., Aviation HS) finished 11th in the platform diving competition at the Air Force Academy.
Jordan Singleton
(R-Jr., Mission Hills, Calif., Ventura CC) swam the fifth fastest 200
backstroke time in school history during the preliminaries (1:49.00).
He went faster, 1:48.53 in the finals and finished 11th overall.
Dan Wickensheimer (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind., Bakersfield Stockdale HS) was 13th in the 200 butterfly (1:50.61).
Dennis Cassidy (So.
Whittier, Calif., La Serna HS) finished 14th in the 1650 free (15:54.05).
CSUB finished seventh (310.5) in the field of 10. UNLV (613) won the team championship.
"Our seniors were so impressive this weekend, it makes me so proud that they are apart of my family for life," said Hansen. "The MPSF has become one of the strongest conferences in the country and we win events and break records. Next year, our younger swimmers need to learn how to race hard in the beginning of their races. We will also need to improve our diving program to where we have four divers that can score big points. We will be on top of the conference again next year."
