Brimer Named CSUB Interim Director of Swim & Dive

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield Athletics has announced that Ryan Brimer has been named Interim Director of Swimming & Diving for the Roadrunners.

"Ryan stepped up immediately in a difficult moment for our program, offering stability and clarity when it was most needed," said Dr. Sarah Tuohy, CSUB's Acting Director of Athletics. "Our student-athletes trust him and have responded to his leadership. He is absolutely the right person at the right time for our student-athletes and the swim and dive program."

Brimer, a California native and a standout alumnus of the CSUB Swim & Dive program, was in his second season as an Assistant Coach for the `Runners in 2025-26 before being appointed to lead the program. He has assumed all head coaching responsibilities immediately as CSUB continues in its winter training session. To aid his efforts, Brimer has welcomed a pair of former `Runners in Dillon Smith and Richie Campbell as assistant coaches, rounding out the coaching staff alongside Dive Coach Stefan Heyn.

During his collegiate career at Cal State Bakersfield, Brimer emerged as one of the program's most reliable performers, earning All-Conference honors four times. His senior campaign was highlighted by a silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle at the MPSF Championships.

In the midst of his collegiate success, Brimer qualified for and competed in the Toyota U.S. Open, further establishing himself among the region's top athletes.

Since graduating, Brimer has continued to make an impact in the Bakersfield aquatics community. He has worked extensively with the Roadrunner Aquatics swimming club while also contributing to the development of CSUB student-athletes through his coaching role with the university.

"I am honored for the opportunity to lead the program this year, Brimer said, "and I am committed to pushing our standard forward alongside this incredible group of student-athletes."

Brimer and his staff will lead the `Runners through the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, which is already off to a strong start as CSUB broke multiple records at the midseason meet recently. Following the season, CSUB Athletics will conduct a national search to identify a permanent leader of the `Runner Swim & Dive program.
