BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--- Nick Martini's RBI single in the top of the
ninth gave Kansas
State (24-15) a 5-4
victory over CSUB (24-11) Monday night at Hardt Field.
Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura,
Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) put
the 'Runners up 1-0 in the first with an RBI single. Martini tied the score in
the fifth with an RBI single of his own. Jason King put the Wildcats ahead with
a three-run home run later in the frame.
The Roadrunners scored one run in fifth on a DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) sacrifice fly. Medina drew the 'Runners to 4-3 with his
sixth home run of the season in the seventh. Cael Brockmeyer (Fr., Vineyard
Haven, Mass.,
Avon Old Farms HS) tied the game with an opposite field single to score Legg
later in the inning.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Ross Kivett tripled to
left center off of Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood,
Calif., Univ. of Redlands)
who was making his first career relief appearance. Martini singled to right for
the go-ahead run.
Martini led the Wildcats with four hits (4-for-5). Medina ended the night
3-for-5.
Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield,
Calif., Bakersfield College)
was 2-for-4 with a walk. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif.,
Bonita Vista HS) also went 2-for-4 with a walk. Nick Shannon (R-Sr., Mesa, Ariz.,
Chandler-Gilbert CC) tossed 3.1 innings of one-hit relief of CSUB starter Spenser
Messmore (Jr., Granada Hills,
Calif., Alemany HS).
The series concludes Tuesday night beginning at 6 p.m.
