Biography

2010 (R-JUNIOR):  Started all 15 appearances on the hill...tied for the team lead with Martin Medina in victories with five...led team in strikeouts (82), innings pitched (103.2), and complete games (5)...struck out a school record 13 in complete game victory at Fresno State (Apr. 13)...struck out 11, but did not get a decision against Nevada (Mar. 14)...had back-to-back nine inning complete games against Arizona (May 9) and Pacific (May 16).

2009 (REDSHIRT): Sat out the 2009 season after transferring to CSUB from NCAA Division III the University of Redlands.

2007-2008 (UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS): Earned first team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as a sophomore...compiled an 8-4 record and 4.57 earned run average in 14 appearances...collected 75 strikeouts, while walking just 22 in 82.2 innings of work.

LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL:  A first team All-Bay Valley Athletic League selection as a senior at Liberty High School...named team MVP...helped lead the Lions to their first playoff berth in 13 years...pitched 84 innings as a senior, carrying a 1.09 ERA and 84 strikeouts...also participated in basketball and cross country at Liberty High...named team MVP on his freshman basketball team...earned Most Improved honors on the Lions' cross country team...carried a cumulative 3.7 GPA during his prep career.

SUMMER LEAGUE:  Pitched for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks in the Alaska Baseball League in 2009...went 4-4 with a 3.92 ERA in 10 appearances...flirted with a no-hitter for 7 2/3 innings on his way to an 11-strikeout, two-walk, one-hit, complete-game victory (July 14 vs. Peninsula Oilers)...played for the Moser Lake Pirates of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League in 2008...recorded a 2.32 ERA and a 4-2 record...struck out 54 batters in 54.2 innings pitched...finished second in the league in strikeouts.

PERSONAL:  Majoring in biology...also pursuing a minor in chemistry...plans to enter the health profession...enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking, hiking and camping...parents are Kevin and Gina McCarthy...born Nov. 18, 1987, in Walnut Creek, Calif.
