Santa Clara Defeats CSUB 4-3 In 13 Innings

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Drew Ozanne singled in his twin brother Matt with two outs in the bottom of the 13th to give Santa Clara (12-11) at 4-3 victory over CSUB (18-7) Apr. 1 at Stephen Schott Stadium.

Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) posted an RBI in the first to break the seal. Ryan McIntyre's (Jr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) drove in Cael Brockmeyer (Fr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) in the top of the seventh for a 2-0 Roadrunner lead. The Broncos scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh in what proved to send the game into extra innings.

Andrew Letourneau's (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) single in the top of the 11th scored Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif.) gave CSUB a 3-2 lead. The Broncos tied the game in the bottom of the 11th when Justin Viele plated Matt DeMerritt with a single.

Sanay went 3-for-6 with a run scored for CSUB. Letourneau was 2-for-5. Roadrunner starter Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood, Calif., Univ. of Redlands) pitched the first nine innings, striking out six and did not walk a batter. Medina, the Roadrunners' closer took the loss, tossing the final 2.2 innings.

The series between CSUB and Santa Clara continues Saturday at 1 p.m.
