SURPRISE, Ariz.--CSUB (10-2) posted its second
consecutive shutout as the Roadrunners defeated Air Force (4-6) 5-0 in college
baseball action Mar. 5 at the Coca Cola Classic.
CSUB which has won nine consecutive games, has seen its pitching staff record 21
consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the seventh against Arizona State
Mar. 3. Saturday's shutout was the third for the Roadrunners in the last five
games (CSUB only had two shutouts in the previous two varsity seasons).
Jonathan Montoya (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS)
picked up his second straight complete game victory. The 5-7 lefty struck out nine while allowing seven
hits. 85 of Montoya's 127 pitches went for strikes.
Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield
College) preserved the shutout in the seventh when he threw out Parker Mayo
from his centerfield position when May attempted to score on a Jon McMahon base
hit.
Ryan McIntyre (Jr. Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) went
2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Mick Gaston (Jr., Quartz Hill,
Calif., Quartz Hill HS) had two RBI's. Seven of the nine CSUB starters had at
least one hit.
The Roadrunners conclude tournament play Sunday with a 12
p.m. game against Northern Illinois.
