CSUB Completes 4-Game Sweep Of Lafayette 11-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB (16-5) completed a four-game sweep of Lafayette (4-11) as the Roadrunners defefated the Leopards 11-1 Mar. 19 at Hardt Field.

CSUB led 7-0 after four complete innings and added four more in the bottom of the eight. Lafayette's lone tally was an unearned run in the top of the ninth. Roadrunner starter Tommy Hoenshell (Jr., Orange County, Calif., Cypress College) tossed a complete game six-hitter. The 6-6 righty struck out six and did not walk a batter as he improved to 4-2 on the season.

Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) smacked his third home run of the season, a two-run job, in the fourth. DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College), Ryan McIntyre (Jr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS), and Mick Gaston (Jr., Quartz Hill, Calif., Quartz Hill HS) each drove in two runs.

Medina, Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS), Legg, and Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) all posted two hits.

The Roadrunners, who have now won five a row, host Ohio State Mar. 24-26 at Hardt Field. Thursday and Friday's games will begin at 6 p.m. and will be the first under the newly installed lights at Hardt Field. Saturday's game will get underway at 1 p.m.

NOTES:
CSUB outscored Lafayette 33-9 in this week's series...When Rodriguez was lifted for a pinch-hitter (Cael Brockmeyer) in the eighth, the ninth inning was the first this season in which the 5-8 switch hitter did not catch a pitch for CSUB. Rodriguez caught 189 straight innings this season for the Roadrunners...Brockmeyer stayed in the game to catch the ninth...Hohenshell's complete was the fourth for the CSUB pitching staff this season. Hohenshell went nine innings in the Roadrunners' 10-inning victory over Arizona State Mar. 3...15 of the 21 CSUB players who dressed for the game saw action.
