McIntyre's RBI's lead CSUB past Lafayette 2-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Ryan McIntyre's (Jr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) RBI double in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the gamewinner as CSUB (15-5) defeated Lafayette (4-10) 2-1 at Hardt Field Mar. 19.

The Leopards struck in the top of the first when AJ Miller's double drove home Alex Bechita. The Roadrunners tied the score in the bottom of the fifth when McIntyre's sacrifice fly plated Kevin Younger (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS).

Tyler Shryock (Fr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) opened the CSUB seventh by reaching on a Lafayette error. One batter later, McIntyre drove in Shryock for the go-ahead run. The Leopards got the tying run on in the ninth. With two outs, Miller singled up the middle off of 'Runner starter Jonathan Montoya (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS).

This brought on CSUB closer Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS). Matt Fenster singled off Medina to give Lafayette runners on the corners. Pinch-hitter Andrew Ruck grounded out to first to end the game.

Montoya went 8.2 innings, striking out five before giving way to Medina. Medina picked up his fifth save of the season. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) was 3-for-4 while Younger went 2-for-4.

The four-game series concludes Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
