BERKELEY, Calif-
Evan Vizcarra (Fr., Penngrove, Calif.,
Petaluma HS) won two events as No. 1 Cal (4-0) defeated CSUB (6-3) 113-83 in
the final regular season meet for the Roadrunners Feb. 5 at the Spieker
Aquatics Complex.
Vizcarra won the 500 and 1000 freestyle races. Vizcarra went
4:420.06 in the 500 freestyle and turned in a time of 9:35.92 in the 1000 free.
Chad McKenzie (Sr., Durbin, South
Africa, Limestone
College) won the 200 breaststroke
(2:13.32) by almost four seconds over teammate Jake Priest (So., Las
Vegas, Nev., Palo Verde HS)
CSUB won the final race of 11-event card when the
Roadrunners' 200 freestyle relay of Kevin Miller (So. Granite
Bay, Calif., Granite Bay HS),
Parsonage, Chris Pipes (Jr., Fresno, Calif.,
Merced College),
and Peter Bardessono (Jr., Elverta, Calif.,
American River
College) were victorious in a time
of 1:24.62.
The 400 medley relay of Luka Leskur (Sr., Split, Croatia,
Technical School Split), McKenzie, Matt Parsonage (Sr., Durbin, South Africa,
Limestone College), and Mark Silvius (Jr. Bakersfield,
Calif., Liberty HS) posted the fastest time
(3:24.06) recorded by a CSUB squad in a dual meet in school history. The team
was third overall in the race.
"Evan has really grown up during his freshman season," said
CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. "Evan swam two personal best times in his
victories today and he has really put himself into a position to contend at the
(MPSF) championships. To end up 6-3 in dual competition really makes me
happy. We swam some off events against
the No. 1 team in the country and we were able to step up race. We have a lot
of confidence going into the (MPSF) meet."
The Roadrunners head to the MPSF Championships Feb. 23-26 in
Long Beach at the Belmont Olympic
Pool.
