BAKERSFIELD,
Calif. - The CSUB
volleyball team got off to a slow start Friday night versus Seattle and
couldn't get going fast enough to come all the way back in a 25-19, 25-18,
20-25, 25-20 loss to the Redhawks in the Icardo Center.
Junior
outside hitter Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale
HS) continued her strong run of recent play, leading CSUB with 16 kills.
Sophomore middle blocker Alysia Baker (Vista/Tri-City
Christian HS) added 11 kills and a .421 attack percentage while junior
setter Danielle Gong (Stockdale HS)
chipped in 42 assists and hit .500 with a career-high six kills.
Sarah
Jaeckel (17 kills) and Cristin Richards (15) dominated the Seattle stat sheet,
accounting for more than 60 percent of Seattle's offense Friday night.
The
first set was close early, but CSUB got sloppy to allow Seattle to pull away.
With set one tied 8-8, four Roadrunner miscues keyed a 10-3 run to gave Seattle
the set. The Redhawks then raced to a quick early lead and never let CSUB in
set two.
The
'Runners came to life in the third set jumping ahead early and holding the
Redhawks at arm's length down the stretch. After a Baker/Gong block of Jaeckel made
it 9-7 CSUB, Seattle never got closer than two points again.
When
a Richards attack error gave CSUB a 14-12 lead midway through the fourth set,
it looked like the 'Runners might go the distance for the third time in four
matches. But Richards responded with her 13th kill of the evening to
jump start a quick 7-1 run that gave Seattle a 19-15 edge it wouldn't
relinquish.
CSUB
and Seattle will play again Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the final Roadrunner
home match of 2010. It will be the final Icardo Center appearance for seniors Lindsay Toone and Allison Cote.
