LOS ANGELES ? Thrower Steve Trojanowski and jumper Ke'Airra Jones recorded personal best marks for the CSUB men's and women's track and field team during Saturday's performance at the USC Invitational.
Trojanowski, a junior, added nearly a foot-and-a-half to his career best mark in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 181-02. Also competing in the hammer event was senior Bryan Romero who recorded a personal best mark of 148-05.
Competing in just her second meet of the season following a run with the women's basketball team all fall and winter, Jones placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-05, two inches higher than her performance a week ago. The freshman was just 3.75 shy of the top mark at the meet, which is another 1.25 inches short of the 5-10 Mississippi state high school record that Jones set during her final prep season at Natchez High School.
Also earning PR's on the women's side were Christa McCann who ran a 5:01.61 1500m, placing 24th overall. Sheena Cooper lowered her 200m mark with a 25.94 final time while matching her personal best in the 100m dash with a 12.33, eighth place finish. Katina Fruguglietti was the final female Roadrunner to record a PR Saturday with a 157-11 mark in the hammer throw.
For the men, senior Brian Lopez placed fourth in the javelin with a season best mark of 188-08, nearly three feet farther than his pervious top mark in 2008.
Freshman David Charleston recorded a personal best height of 6-4.75 in the high jump while fellow freshman Ryan Nichols tied his top time in the 100m dash (11.09).
Both ?Runner squads will compete next Friday and Saturday at the Cal-Nevada Championships in Fresno, Calif.
