BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Jessi Loring scored her second-highest point total of the season and third-best of her career to lead Cal State Bakersfield to a big 96-47 win over Cal State L.A. at Rabobank Arena on Tuesday.
Loring showed her complete game on Tuesday, scoring 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also had eight rebounds, four blocked shots and two assists in just 23 minutes of playing time. Loring's career high of 27 points came at Cal State Stanislaus last season, and Loring also scored 26 points earlier this year at Cal State Fullerton. It marks the seventh time this season Loring has scored more than 20 points in a game.
With her 25 points, Loring also became the sixth player in Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball history to score 700 or more points in her career. She now sits at 707 in her career.
In addition to Loring's big night, Kelley Tarver added 12 points with five assists and four steals, while Rhonda Johnson came off the bench for 11 points in just 11 minutes. Florida Siaosi just missed her fourth double-double in five games with 10 points and nine rebounds.
For Cal State L.A., DeAnna Baldwin scored 13 points while Amber Fause came off the bench for 10 points.
Bakersfield's win streak, which reached seven games on Tuesday, was never in jeopardy. The Roadrunners scored first, jumped to a quick 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the game and never led by less than five the rest of the way In fact, Bakersfield's lead hit double digits at 15-5 when Johnson hit a free throw less than five minutes into the game and it was double digits the rest of the way.
Cal State L.A. was able to cut the lead down to 16 at the end of the first half at 43-27 to make the final result still slightly in doubt. But the Roadrunners opened the second half on a 15-0 run over nearly the first six minutes of the half to extend the Bakersfield lead up to 58-27 and put the game away for good.
The Roadrunners will continue on their season-long five-game homestand on Thursday when they host Chico State at Rabobank Arena at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a women's-men's doubleheader.
