BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield forward Florida Siaosi (Hesperia/Sultana HS) continues to play like anything other than a doe-eyed freshman. The first-year player dominated again Saturday night, scoring a career-high 26 points and pulling down 17 rebounds to lead the Roadrunners to a 103-60 win over Cal State Stanislaus at Rabobank Arena.
Saturday's effort marked the second time in three weeks that Siaosi has scored more than 20 points and grabbed more than 15 rebounds in the same game. That she did it all in just 26 minutes of action Saturday made her feat all the more remarkable.
Siaosi's effort nearly overshadowed a strong team performance by Bakersfield (17-6, 14-2 CCAA) which won its ninth consecutive game and remained tied for first place in the CCAA with UC San Diego. The Roadrunners visit UCSD Friday night in a game that could very well decided the conference race.
For the eighth time this season, the 'Runners scored the first points in the game and never trailed. It took them just eight minutes to build their first double-digit lead at 15-4. By halftime, the score was 52-23 and Bakersfield expanded its lead throughout the second half.
In addition to Siaosi, sophomore guard Kelley Tarver (Valencia HS) scored more than 20 points for the second consecutive game, finishing with a season-high 23. She completed an enviable stat line with five assists and seven steals.
Stanislaus (6-14, 3-13) played without leader scorer Gwendolyn Page, who is nursing a leg injury. In her absence, Lysandra Williams led Warriors for the second consecutive game with 17 points.
Bakersfield hits the road for its next four games, beginning with Friday's showdown at UC San Diego. Cal State Stanislaus returns home to host Cal Poly Pomona Friday at Warrior Arena.
