Low named 2026 Llyod Norwood Spirit Award recipient

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — The Lloyd Norwood Spirit Award is presented annually to a member of the Big Blue Rowdy Crew Pep Band who best exemplifies the passion and spirit that Norwood brought to CSU Bakersfield athletics every game he attended as a fan.

Norwood was a beloved Roadrunner supporter whose energy and enthusiasm became a familiar part of the game-day atmosphere. A devoted fan of Roadrunner basketball and the pep band, Norwood was often seen in the stands clapping and dancing along to the music while cheering on the Roadrunners. His personality and unwavering support of the Roadrunners left a lasting impression on all who met him.

The CSU Bakersfield Spirit Programs presented the 2026 Lloyd Norwood Spirit Award during a special recognition at center court to Felicia Low, a junior from Bakersfield and member of the Big Blue Rowdy Crew Pep Band.

Low, a pre-healthcare major, was selected by Pep Band Director Dr. Leo Sakamoto in recognition of her dedication to the pep band, her support of the men's and women's basketball programs and campus events, and her excellence in the classroom. Low currently carries a GPA above 3.3 while remaining an active and enthusiastic presence as a member of the Big Blue Rowdy Crew.

Sakamoto said Low exemplifies the qualities the award was created to celebrate.

"Felicia has shown tremendous dedication to the pep band and to supporting Roadrunner athletics," Sakamoto said. "Her enthusiasm, reliability and commitment both in the stands and in the classroom reflect the spirit of this award and the legacy of Mr. Norwood."

The award, created to honor Norwood's legacy and to recognize students who embody the same spirit, positivity and commitment to CSU Bakersfield athletics, has been presented annually since 2022.
