BAKERSFIELD, Calif. The CSUB Dance Team hosted its first youth clinic of the season on Saturday, welcoming children in kindergarten through fifth grade to the "Dancing Runners" clinic held inside the Physical Education Building (Old Gym). The event took place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., leading into the Roadrunners' home women's basketball game later that afternoon against UC Santa Barbara.
During the clinic, attendees learned the importance of staying active through dance and how movement can positively support both physical and mental health. Participants were taught a sideline routine by members of the Dance Team and took part in a series of lighthearted games designed to keep the experience fun and engaging.
Before heading to the Icardo Center to cheer on the Roadrunner women's basketball team, each attendee received a signed team poster as a keepsake and took photos with their favorite dance team members. During halftime, clinic participants took the court to perform the dance they learned earlier in the day, drawing cheers and excitement from the crowd.
Head coach Courtland Witt said she was proud of the way her student athletes led the clinic and the impact they made on the young dancers.
"I loved watching our team mentor these kids," Witt said. "Seeing them create those bonds and leave such a positive impression on these young dancers is exactly what makes events like this so special."
CSUB Spirit Programs plan to host additional clinics in 2026. Those interested can find more information by visiting the CSUB Spirit or CSUB Dance Team social media pages.
