Cheerleading Team Embarks on New Journey with NCAA's Emerging Sport, STUNT

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The California State University, Bakersfield cheerleading team is gearing up for an exciting new chapter as they introduce STUNT, a National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) emerging sport, to their program.

This marks the first year CSU Bakersfield will compete in STUNT, expanding their program offerings and providing a fresh platform for their student-athletes to display their skills.

"We're thrilled to take this significant step forward," said head coach Arthur Smith. "STUNT will allow our athletes to showcase their incredible skills in a new and challenging way. I'm eager to see how this addition will enhance our program by providing more opportunities for female student-athlete participation."

Sophomore Kennedi Herrera shared her enthusiasm, "I'm excited to participate in STUNT. I know my teammates and I are going to work hard to best represent ourselves, our university, and our community. This new opportunity will push us to grow and develop as student- athletes like never before."

STUNT, is a hybrid sport combining elements of cheerleading and gymnastics, emphasizes technical skill, strength, and strategy. The CSU Bakersfield team has been preparing diligently since the start of the fall semester, honing their skills in tumbling, jumps, and pyramid building.

As the team embarks on this new journey, they invite prospective athletes to follow their progress by following the cheerleading program on social media (@CSUBCheer)
