Men's Swim & Dive

`Runners Head to MPSF Championships this week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With the Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's swim and dive teams approaching the final month of their season, both teams compete in the MPSF Championships this week. The Roadrunners will look to get positive results from the four-day meet, after both teams picked up victories in their last outings. The swim teams will head to St. George, Utah for their championships and the diving team will travel to Mission Viejo, Calif. for their competition.

Quotes from Director of Swimming Chris Hansen
  • "Having a winning dual meet season for both the men and women sets up our confidence going into the MPSF for sure. Having a very successful Princeton Invite and beating Fresno State and Cal Poly certainly didn't hurt our confidence either."
  • "For the women, depth could still be an issue this year, but we are going to fight tooth and nail to climb the ladder to the top of the MPSF. Mikayla Popham and Chelaine Van der Westhuizen could win some events to score us some big points."
  • "Our relays are going to remind me of the Michaela Paige, Nicolette Goncalves, Kelsey Lange, Dylana Milobar days - some big records could go. Besides Mikayla and Chelaine - Nicole Horton, Holly DiSimone and Lorena Jerebic will play a big part in that. Hannah Marsh, Jessica Franco, Danielle Albright, and Kylie Ney are also very important to our success."
  • "Divers Chloe Brown and Madi Gray will be competing in a different state, but our `Runner hearts will be connected, and they will help us big time."
  • "For the men, all eyes are on Vili Sivec and Antonio Milin, both from Croatia. Vili's times have put him in the ranks of Mitchell Huxhold and Kris Rogic and that's not bad company. As a freshman he just has to race smart! He could be a MPSF champion as a freshman!"
  • "Antonio coming off a great Princeton is also a contender to do big things! Like the women, the men could shatter the relay record books - Yigit Saglam, Arthur Schneider and Jacob Folsom will be swimming a ton of relays along with Sivec and Milin."
  • "The men have the potential to score much higher than last year. Dyson Modica, Andersen Laing, and Robert Vlad could score us big points in diving. Senior Adrian Paseta, Timothy Engel, Skyler Carmelich and Christoph Horky could also be big point scores".

  • Freshman Vili Sivec has also been named MPSF Swimmer of the Week twice this season and again also posted three wins in his last competition, vs. Cal Poly. He is now undefeated in his last eight individual races and will look make a mark at his first conference championships.
  • Both the men's and the women's relay teams are coming off wins in the 200 medleys. Mikayla Popham, Chelaine Van der Westhuizen, Lorena Jerebic and Nicole Horton picked up a win for the women against Fresno State.
