Bakersfield, CA- The CSU Bakersfield cheerleading team has named Valerie Garza as it's Athlete of the Month for November. A Bakersfield native, Valerie is a freshmen who attended Frontier High School. A Liberal Studies major, Valerie is on track to graduate in 2027. Always the life of the party, Valerie can always be counted on to bring energy and a positive attitude to every practice, game or special event. Valerie serves as base for the Roadrunner cheerleading team.
Q. What does it mean to be voted Athlete of the Month by your teammates?
"Overall, it makes me feel really good to be honest. Lately we have been focusing on being good teammates to one another and supporting each other, so this award at this time means alot."
Q. How does it feel to be a local kid winning an award like this?
A. It feels really good to be doing so good on this team. Both my parents went here (CSUB) and they love that I go here. Winning something like this means alot not just to me but I know my parents will be happy for me too."
