CSUB Returns to Cal Poly for Mustang Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's track and field return to San Luis Obispo this Friday for the Mustang Invitational. The last time the Roadrunners were at a Cal Poly hosted meet, nearly a month ago, several athletes finished Top 5 behind second place marks from Tom Richardson, Mariah LeSure, Julianne Finch, and Miranda Miller.

The Big West Conference Championships are on the horizon with just three regular season meets left on CSUB's 2022 outdoor docket. Both teams are in position to earn multiple podium finishes and send qualifiers to NCAA West Regionals.

Bakersfield's women have four who rank Top 5 or better among Big West competitors. Miranda Miller paces the conference in pole vault with her career best mark while Julianne Finch is tied third in vault behind her own career high clearance. Riley Slayton's best 400-meter hurdles time is 0:00.10 behind second in league. Mariah LeSure rounds out the `Runners Top 5 conference performers in the 100m ranking fifth with her fastest career time.

Julia Stein, who was a Big West finalist last season, is another conference contender in the 400mH currently ranked ninth in the league and all-time at CSUB.

Jessi Solis moved up to ninth all-time in program history behind a personal record in hammer thrown last week at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She owns the 12th best mark in the event on the Big West performance list.

In the NCAA West region, Miranda Miller is ranked sixth and Julianne Finch is 38th in pole vault.  Riley Slayton is listed with the 62nd fasted 400mH time in the region.  All three will compete in their specialties this Friday at Cal Poly.

Bakersfield's men's team has seen consistent success from its throwers who have been putting up some big performances this season.

Hugo Santana is coming off a runner up finish in hammer at the Bryan Clay Invitational and sits 2 feet behind a conference Top 5 throw. Tom Richardson has placed first, second, or third in shot put the last five meets contested. He is fifth in the event in the Big West behind a career best thrown two weekends ago at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.  Jacob Whitby put himself on the program's Top 20 depth chart in hammer throw last weekend with a PR and third place finish at Bryan Clay.

Curtis Threlkeld is another athlete expected close out the 2022 season strong looking for his second trip to NCAA Regionals. He will race the 1500m this Friday at Cal Poly before returning to his specialty event, the 800m.

Live results and other meet information related to the Mustang Invitational on Friday can be found on the CSUB track and field schedule page at GoRunners.com once released by the host school Cal Poly.
