Threlkeld, Miller Reset Meet Records in Wins at LBSU

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men and women's track and field teams had several athletes excel in Day 2 of the Beach Opener Saturday. The Roadrunners had a pair of wins and meet records set by Miranda Miller in women's vault and Curtis Threlkeld in the men's 800-meter race.

Miller continues to set records setting a new meet pole vault record while besting her competition by well over a foot at 4.03m (13'2.5"). Julianne Finch finished fourth in vault clearing 3.68m (12'0.75") behind two conference foes and teammate Miranda Miller.

Curtis Threlkeld reset the Beach Opener meet record time in the 800m with time of 1:52.20. He remains undefeated to start the 2022 season.

Mariah LeSure was questionable for competition this weekend nursing an injury but gritted out a second-place finish in the 100m. Her time of 12.13 was faster than all but USC sprinter Celera Barnes.

CSUB had two Top 10 finishes in men's shot put behind Tom Richardson (15.76m, 51'8.25") placing fourth and Matthew Garrett (15.05m, 49'4.5") finishing eighth.

Bradley Bryant's sixth-place finish in men's long jump was another event the `Runners had a Top 10 placement going the distance of 6.99m (22'11.25").

In the women's 400m hurdles, Julia Stein and Riley Slayton finished seventh and ninth in the event.

Director of Track & Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth had positive feedback on the Roadrunners effort in Long Beach. She mentioned, "Big performances today in a competitive meet. We had several people step up this weekend. I'm very proud."
