West Coast Relays on Tap for Track & Field

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield outdoor track and field will take part in its sixth meet, in Fresno at the West Coast Relays, halfway through the 2022 regular season.

Other notable teams competing: Fresno State, Washington, UCLA, Long Beach State, Colorado State, Cal Poly, and San Jose State.

THURSDAY – Hammer Throw

Tom Richardson currently leads the Roadrunners in throws ranking sixth and ninth in the Big West in shot put and hammer. Hugo Santana also boasts a Top 10 conference mark ranked seventh in hammer. Jacob Whitby, Axel Salazar, and Matthew Garrett join Santana and Richardson on Thursday.

Richardson and Garrett return Friday for competition in shot put.

CSUB women's throwers Jessi Solis, Kayla Prince, and Madison King will also throw hammer Thursday.

FRIDAY – All other events

The strength of the women's team has been largely behind its pole vaulters.

Miranda Miller ranks first in the Big West, fourth in the West region, and 10th in the nation. Julianne Finch is another vaulter making noise in the league currently ranked fourth. Miller, Finch, and Kassidy Neptune jump Friday.

Bakersfield has also had success in women's hurdles this season. Riley Slayton and Julia Stein rank second and fifth in conference in the 400m hurdles. Stein is also 11th in the Big West in 100m hurdles. Jatzyn Greer, who holds a school depth chart time, will join the pair in both hurdle events on Friday and the 1600m relay.

Mariah LeSure is fourth among Big West sprinters in the 100m dash and 10th in the 200m.

Curtis Threlkeld is the Big West Conference leader in the 800m race and is looking for his second trip to the NCAA Regionals in that event. Threlkeld is currently ranked 13th in the West region.

The men's jumpers are competing well this season. Jesus Alvarez and Ryan Bentley will leap together in high jump while Bradley Bryant bounds in long jump and triple jump Friday.

"This will be one of the most competitive meets on the West Coast this season with some of the best teams in the country scheduled to compete," said Director of Track & Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We will continue to build on the momentum and challenge our athletes each week."
