Track & Field Outdoor Teams at FPU Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor teams will get an early look at the 2022 season on Saturday at the Fresno Pacific Invitational. A special group of veterans get ready to lace up for one last go around with the Roadrunners while some new faces look to turn heads.
 
Women's Vault
 
Miranda Miller has landed top collegiate finisher in vault all but once in 2022. She holds the indoor and outdoor CSUB record at 4.0m (13'1.5") and will be looking for a smooth transition from indoor to outdoor meets this weekend.
 
Returning to competition with Bakersfield is Julianne Finch who has five all-conference honors tied to her name and is second all-time in pole vault at CSUB.  In 2021, Finch placed fourth at the Big West Championships behind teammate, Miller.  She finishes up her while in her final track and field season.  
 
Women's Sprints
 
Mariah LeSure, who is coming off a personal best ran unattached earlier this month and ranks all-time in 100m/200m/60m, makes her return for her final year at CSUB. In 2020, she placed third in the 60m finals at the Western Athletic Conference indoor championships. LeSure will focus on the 100m and 200m during the 2022 outdoor season and is expected to finish her master's degree this May.
 
Nerissa Thompson, in her first year on sprints for CSUB, will join LeSure in both events this spring season.  
 
Women's Distance
 
Aj and Bianca Frausto will return for their final track and field campaigns together in the pairs final year of graduate school. Both Bianca and Aj are ranked at CSUB all-time in the 3000m, 5000m and 10000m races; as well as the cross country 6k race. The duo will compete in the 3000m at the FPU Invitational on Saturday.
 
Women's Hurdles
 
Riley Slayton, who was a 400m Hurdles bronze medalist in 2019 and fifth all-time at Bakersfield will compete in her signature event for the first time this year.  She will be joined by 2021 Big West finalist Julia Stein and newcomer Jaztyn Greer.  
 
The men have waited a long time to return to competition and are eager to get back on the track and field.  
 
Men's Mid-Distance
 
Curtis Threlkeld will compete in the 1500m distance prior to taking on his signature event, the 800m. He ranks second at CSUB all-time in the 800m in addition to being on the men's program lists in the 400m and 1500m events.  Threlkeld is a two-time 800m WAC champion and last qualified for the 2019 NCAA Regionals advancing on to the second round.  
 
Men's Jumps
 
A strong jump crew will open up this Saturday for the Roadrunners. Jesus Alvarez and Ryan Bentley will compete in the high jump this weekend. Bradley Bryant will cover the other two jumping events infield competing in the long and triple jumps.  
 
Men's Sprints
 
After setting personal bests last season, Derek Crawford returns to the 200m and 400m dashes at FPU on Saturday along with teammates JJ Flores, and newcomers Koby Custodio and Sky Blue Gonzales.
 
Kenny and Gavyn will return to competition joining Crawford, Flores, Custodio, and Gonzales in the 200m and looking to score for CSUB in the 100m.
 
Men's Throws
 
Jacob Whitby, Hugo Santana, and Tom Richardson will opt out of the opener at FPU and begin their 2022 outdoor seasons at the `Runners next scheduled meet in two weeks. Whitby makes his return from a serious back injury last year. In 2021, Santana was sixth-best in hammer at the Big West outdoor championships.
 
Matthew Garrett and Axel Salazar will throw hammer for CSUB on Saturday in the pairs first meet competing in a Roadrunners uniform.
