Get to Know CSUB Women's Basketball: Point Guards

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The clock continues counting down until the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team opens the 2022-23 season. The Roadrunners are preparing to host the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Oct. 25, giving fans a chance to meet the team before the year officially gets underway.

Before then, we want to introduce the team to fans, providing more insight into the person behind the name, number, and uniform. First up in our position-by-position breakdown of the `Runner women's basketball team, meet the Head Coach Greg McCall's point guards.

Notable
  • McCall on the group: "We have a combination of guards that can do whatever thing we need. They can get the job done no matter what it is. Whether its running the show, or  we need them to come in and play hard and get after it on defense."
`Runner Point Guards
  • #2 Morgan Edwards (Newcomer)
    • 5-foot-7, freshman
    • From Hawthorn, Calif., went to Redondo Union High School
    • Was an All-Bay League honoree and Honor Roll student at RUHS
    • Coach McCall: "Morgan is a shifty point guard. She can put the ball on the floor and she definitely can score."
    • Teammate she would want to be stranded with on a deserted island: "Sage Bridges-Bey."
  • #11 Taylor Caldwell (Newcomer)
    • 5-foot-9, redshirt senior
    • From Bakersfield, Calif., went to Bakersfield High School
    • Transferred to CSUB from Grand Canyon University
    • Former All-WAC Defensive Team honoree while with the Lopes
    • Two-time Kern High School District Female Athlete of the Year
    • Led the BHS Drillers to a Valley Championship
    • Coach McCall: "We're expecting a lot of leadership out of Taylor. She also brings size and strength at the point guard position."
    • Start 1, Bench 1, Cut 1 – Tacos, Pizza, Sushi: "I would start pizza, bench tacos, and cut sushi."
  • #14 Nseije Ortiz (Newcomer)
    • Pronunciation: n-sage
    • 5-foot-6, freshman
    • From Porterville, Calif., went to Porterville High School
    • Helped the Panthers win CIF Central Section twice and three league titles
    • Coach McCall: "NSeije was a walk-on, but she earned a scholarship this year. Her nickname is Scrap because she is so scrappy, always diving on the floor, always doing the little things."
    • Most Influential Athlete: "Kobe Bryant."
