`Runners Down Shockers for Back-to-Back Road Wins

WICHITA, Kan. — The Roadrunner women's basketball team tallied its second-straight road win, handing the Wichita State Shockers a 60-55 defeat on their home court Saturday afternoon. Cal State Bakersfield will return from its Midwest swing with a pair of victories, looking to keep the momentum rolling next week against a Big 12 team in Arizona.

CSUB blitzed Wichita State out of the gate, outscoring its host 24-14 in the first quarter. The Shockers slowed the `Runner momentum briefly in the second quarter, but Bakersfield went into the locker room with a 42-29 advantage.

In the opening frame, the `Runners forced 13 Wichita State turnovers, including 9 steals, while guard Chrishawn Coleman paced all student-athletes with 14 points.

The Shockers responded well out of the halftime break, outscoring CSUB 15-5 in the third period, but the `Runners never let their hosts regain the lead. Each time CSUB needed a stop, a `Runner came up big and kept Wichita State at arm's length.

Coleman scored just two points in the second half, but they came on a clutch layup in the final minute that iced the game with the help of a defensive stop on the other end.

Coleman led all student-athletes on the game with 16 points while adding 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Morgan Hawkins chipped in 12 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists while Marley Langi added 10 points in the win. Tena Ikidi (8) and Zalissa Finley (7) were big on the rebounding effort for Cal State Bakersfield.

CSUB outshot its opponent in both field goals and three-pointers, but a huge free throw disparity (6-of-15 CSUB, 21-of-28 WSU) kept the Shockers in the game.
