CSUB at Big West Track & Field Championships



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor track and field have trained the last three months, withstanding an unorthodox season in preparation for this week – Big West Championships. UC Irvine - Anteater Stadium is where the Roadrunners preparation will be measured (or timed).
 
Field events are final and spread across three days starting on Thursday. Trials for all track events unless noted are done in the first two days before finals on Saturday.
 
"This has been a year of challenges and I could not be prouder of the work ethic and character this team has shown in spite of circumstances," said Director of Track & Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth.  
 
"They show up every day, embracing every opportunity and we've learned a lot about ourselves and our ability to persevere, adapt, and move forward because of it."
 
THURSDAY
 
CSUB has a pair of women's throwers in Jessi Solis and Kayla Prince who are set to open the meet for the Roadrunners at 10 AM. 
 
Hugo Santana is listed in the Top 8 flight with the fifth best seed mark. Corbin Chronister, Tom Shepherd and Caleb Melson are all in the second flight. Men's hammer throw is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM.
 
Miranda Miller has jumped a school record mark twice this season. Her seed mark (4.00m) is tied third in conference. Julianne Finch, Alexa Schacher and Kassidy Neptune look for Top 8 finishes in a deep twenty-athlete pole vault flight. The event starts at 2 PM.
 
Bakersfield has an opportunity to make some noise in hurdles this weekend. Riley Slayton has a 400m hurdles seed mark milliseconds off from Top 8. Although coming off injury, she will be counted on to pace CSUB in the event. Slayton and freshman Julia Stein are in different trial heats with the first of two starting around 5 PM.
 
Evan Vigass is seeded towards the bottom of the men's 400m hurdles heat sheet but has exceeded seed expectations all season.
 
CSUB has one sprinter - Derek Crawford. He will run in the 200m preliminary around 6 PM. Crawford has the fifth best seeded time in his heat and is coming off a personal best in the event.  
 
Bianca Frausto wraps up day one of events for the Roadrunners in the 10,000m race. It will be her second attempt at the distance this season.  
 
FRIDAY
 
Jumps open day two of events at UC Irvine - Anteater Stadium at 10 AM. Hannah Walker will need a career mark to contend with the other fourteen conference high jumpers on Friday.
 
Bakersfield has a young pair of men's high jumpers in Jesus Alverez and Ryan Bentley listed to compete at 12 PM. Around the same time, Richardson is scheduled to throw shot put where he finds himself seeded middle of the pack.  
 
Bradley Bryant sees his first event at championships in long jump Friday afternoon. Alverez joins him in the event scheduled to start at 3 PM.
 
The 100mH and 110mH events are the first listed for track trials on day two of Big West Championships. Stein and Vigass look to advance in both hurdle distances they're entered in this weekend.
Crawford will get another attempt to advance to his first conference final Saturday night around 5:30 PM when 400m preliminary races are run.
 
SATURDAY
 
The remaining two field events, triple jump and discus, are on day three of Big West Championships at UC Irvine - Anteater Stadium. Bryant jump starts the final day of competition in triple at 11 AM before Chronister throws discus for the final time as a Roadrunner around 2:30 PM.
 
Finals for track events will begin with relays at 12 PM and finish with relays at 4:45 PM
 
"We have a smaller squad than most," added Mansur-Wentworth, "and have missed a lot of training time. But are still looking for some individual successes and to get our feet wet in the Big West."
