`Runners Continue TYR Series Competition

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's Autumn D'Arcy, Ryan Brimer and Kris Rogic will continue their quests for International swimming standards in a pair of TYR series meets over the next two weeks. D'Arcy and Rogic will compete in Mission Viejo, Calif., from Apr. 7-11, before Rogic and Brimer make the trek to Jacksonville, Fla., for a meet beginning on Apr. 15.

D'Arcy will swim the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle events in Mission Viejo. The Roadrunner junior has already qualified for US Olympic Trials in the 100 Butterfly and is looking to improve her seeding with a new personal best time.

This weekend's event will be D'Arcy's first competitive swim in over 13 months. She last raced at the 2020 National Invitational Championship in Cleveland, Ohio, an event cut short by the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

She placed second at the NIC in the 50 Freestyle, posting a time of 24.09 and capping a standout sophomore season that saw her win a school record 24 individual races and earn Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year honors.

Rogic is set to race in the 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke events this weekend. He has shaved ahead of the meet and is in search of qualifying times for the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary, next month.

Advancing to the European Championships is the first step towards Rogic's overall goal of representing his native Croatia at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

"Mission Viejo is the deepest field of Olympic hopefuls, Olympic Medalists and World Record holders we've seen in a long time," said CSUB Director of Swimming and Diving Chris Hansen. "In a lot of ways this event will mimic trials and the Tokyo Olympics, but swimming fast is swimming fast. Both Kris and Autumn will have to be fast to get a second swim, but I believe they are each capable of doing just that."

Rogic will swim the same three events in Jacksonville.

He'll be joined by classmate, Brimer, who will be rested, shaved and ready to compete in the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle events. Brimer is still searching for a qualification time to the US Olympic Trials this summer.

"This has been an emotional year for everyone," Hansen explained. "Autumn, Ryan and Kris have followed strict health and safety guidelines to get back into the pool and have crammed a year's worth of training into just four months. I cannot express how proud I am of them, how they've handled their situations and how hard they have worked."

Three other CSUB swimmers are also chasing international dreams this summer.

Senior Loren Gillilan will join D'Arcy at the US Olympic Trials this summer, where he'll swim the 100 Butterfly.

On the women's side, sophomore Mikayla Popham will race a number of freestyle events at the Australian Olympic Trials, while incoming freshman Lorena Jerebic is also competing to represent Croatia at the European Championships and Olympic Games.
