CSUB Looks To Solidify Conference Tournament Seeding

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will split away and home contests this weekend with California Baptist University and New Mexico State University, respectively. The Roadrunners travel to Riverside, Calif. on Friday for a 3 p.m. kickoff with the Lancers then host the Aggies at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

CSUB and CBU have yet to step foot on the pitch together for competition.

This will be the 10th time that Bakersfield has faced New Mexico. The first meeting between both programs was on Oct. 14, 2012 when the Aggies opened the series with a 1-0 edge in overtime at home. Last year the match went to extra periods and resulted in a 2-2 double-overtime draw. The Roadrunners own the all-time series 5-3-1. Sunday's home contest could very well decide who gets into the conference tournament at the end of the month with the Roadrunners and Aggies tied for sixth place in league standings with CBU not eligible for the tournament.

In the case of a tie between two teams in the final standings, position shall be determined by the winner of the head-to-head competition is the higher seed. If Sunday's match results in a tie, league officials will compare the tied teams' goal differentials within conference games (up to a maximum three goals). Next, the tied teams' goals scored within conference games would be compared and if a tie still remains, the conference office shall conduct a draw and the drawn team shall receive the higher seed.

"This is a crucial weekend for us and the rest of the league in terms of qualifying for the WAC tournament," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We will come out and play our best soccer to give us a chance to make the tournament. We are taking one game at a time and are looking to get as many points as possible."

California Baptist (11-3-1, 4-2 WAC) is coming off a 1-0 victory over Utah Valley. The Lancers
opened conference action with a 4-0 loss against Seattle University then tallied three consecutive shutouts against Chicago State, NM State and Grand Canyon before dropping a 1-0 decision to Kansas City.

NM State (2-13, 1-4 WAC) opened league play with four-straight shutout losses before earning its first win over Chicago State last weekend. The Aggies will face Grand Canyon on Friday before preparing for Sunday's clash.

CSUB (4-10, 1-4 WAC) split its first two conference contests on the road with Chicago State and Kansas City then dropped the next three contests against Seattle U, UTRGV, and Utah Valley.
