Evens Makes 11 Saves as `Runners Drop Battle in Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho – An atalatean effort from Cal State Bakersfield goalkeeper Addyson Evens kept the Roadrunners in the mix during Thursday night's road match against the University of Idaho. CSUB ultimately dropped the 1-0 battle, but Evens' 11 saves gave the `Runners time and opportunities to continue to fight the Vandals.

Key Facts
  • Making her first start as a `Runner, Evens tallied double-digit saves while keeping her squad in the game.
  • Bakersfield was outshot 22-4 on the match, yet clawed its way into a battle with opportunities to find the equalizer.
  • Jaiden Gore, Allison Dennett, and Kate Endler were the three `Runner field players to play all 90 minutes in the match.
First Half

Idaho dominated possession throughout the opening 45 minutes, but the `Runner defense did well to weather the pressure. Despite being outshot 9-0 in the opening period Bakersfield allowed just two quality chances, both of which were smothered by goalkeeper Evens. Making her first start as a `Runner, Evens made four saves in the scoreless first period.

Second Half

The Vandals struck just five minutes into the second half, heading home a cross in what would turn out to be the only goal of the night. The defensive miscue sparked a revitalized energy for the `Runners, who responded with better play over the final 40 minutes of the match.

Bakersfield's best opportunity to score of the night came on a ball cleared almost 30 years out. The clearance fell to the feet of CSUB's Alexandra Diaz, who put a one-time blast to the left side of the net that would have gone it were it not for the diving hand of the Vandals' keeper.

The `Runners battled down to the end, and Evens made 7 of her 11 saves in the second period, but Bakersfield came up short of finding the equalizer in the road loss.
