Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

`Runners Hand Islanders First Loss on Rowdy Run Night

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team used a strong first half to earn its first victory of the season Thursday night. The Roadrunners handed the previously-undefeated Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders their first loss of the year with a 2-1 victory at the Main Soccer Field.

Key Facts
  • With over 1,000 fans in attendance celebrating Cal State Bakersfield's annual Rowdy Run, the `Runners used the electric energy of the crowd to sprint out to a 2-0 first-half advantage.
  • Bakersfield had been unable to find the back of the next in any of its four matches as Thursday night's offensive outburst provided a welcome ice breaker.
  • Addyson Evens posted a career-high 14 saves on the night, just one shy of CSUB's all-time record (15, Hollee Hercik, 2024).
  • A scuffle in the middle of the first half led to both teams being issued a red card and playing with just 10 women for the rest of the match.
First Half

Cal State Bakersfield came out of the gate hot, riding energy into a ninth-minute goal for a 1-0 lead. The `Runners used pin-point passing to find CJ Walters wide open in front of the net for CSUB's first goal of the season. Twenty minutes later, Bakersfield doubled its advantage when Jaiden Gore's corner kick curled into the back of the net.

  Second Half

Corpus Christi started the second half with renewed energy and enthusiasm, dominating possession and threatening its hosts often. The Islanders broke through 65th minute on a ball headed home by MyJoi Anderson.

Bakersfield fended off shot after shot with Evens rejecting the attempts at an equalizer. Evens ended the night with 14 saves and the `Runners also cleared one off the line for a team save. Despite being outshot 22-8, Bakersfield capitalized on its opportunities on the way to the 2-1 victory.
