`Runners Fall to Undefeated EWU on the Road

CHENEY, Wash. – Despite a solid offensive showing, the Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team came up empty in a 2-0 road loss Sunday afternoon. The Roadrunners were blanked by an Eastern Washington team that improved to 5-0 with the victory on its home field.

  • CSUB went toe-to-toe with the Eagles, taking 13 shots in the match with more than half (7) being on target.

First Half

EWU got out to the better start and owned the majority of possession in the first 20 minutes of the match. Bakersfield began to slow the Eagles' pace with some possession of their own, but EWU finally broke through in the 32nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The `Runners answered back with more solid play, but still found themselves trailing by a goal heading into halftime.

Second Half

In the final 45 minutes, the `Runners had several chances, including a 1v1 with the EWU goalkeeper, but Bakersfield came up just short of an equalizing goal each time. With 11 minutes to play, the Eagles put away a rebounded save to effectively seal the deal with a 2-0 lead. The `Runners battled all the way to the final whistle, but ultimately fell in the 2-0 loss.
