EDINBURG, Texas- The CSUB Roadrunners (18-8, 8-3 WAC) will look to split their most recent Western Athletic Conference road trip on Saturday night and potentially lock up the second-seed for the upcoming WAC Tournament when they play at UT Rio Grande Valley.
The 'Runners, coming off a 63-55 setback at first-place NM State, had a four-game winning streak snapped in Thursday's loss. The Roadrunners struggled to score points late as the Aggies managed a late 11-0 run to seal the win.
At 8-3- in WAC play the 'Runners find themselves in third place overall and in line for the second-seed in the WAC Tournament. If CSUB wins Saturday and Seattle loses at NM State, the Roadrunners would clinch the number-two seed for the WAC Tournament scheduled for March 10-12 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. CSUB has two regular-season games remaining after Saturday night, at home on February 27 vs. Grand Canyon and again on March 5 vs. Seattle U.
UTTGV (7-19, 3-8 WAC) enters on the heels of a 67-57 win over Seattle on Thursday night. The Vaqueros were led by senior guard Shaquille Hines' 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting and 5-of-11 from three-point range. UTRGV was 11-of-27 from three-point range in the game while Seattle managed just 2-of-16 from beyond the arc.
CSUB defeated the Vaqueros 77-58 in Bakersfield on January 21. Four players scored in double figures in the victory led by senior forward Kevin Mays who scored 21 points on 9-of-13 from the field. Dedrick Basile and Aly Ahmed each added 16 points apiece in the win.
