CORVALLIS, Ore.—Wrestling in front of national television audience on the Pac-12 Networks, No. 19/21 Oregon State (5-0, 4-0 Pac-12) defeated CSU Bakersfield (3-3, 0-2 Pac-12) 32-5 Saturday at Gill Coliseum.
The dual began at 141 pounds where Timmy Box (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) dropped a 9-0 decision to Devin Reynolds. Abraham Rodriguez's take down of Coleman Hammond (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) with 38 seconds remaining in the third period gave Rodriguez a 6-5 victory at 149 pounds. Alex Elder picked up a 10-3 victory over Spencer Hill (R-Sr., Clovis, Calif., Fresno City College) at 157 pounds.
Seth Thomas used a takedown with 15 seconds to go in the third period to defeat Adam Fierro (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 3-1 in the 165-pound bout. In a rematch of the 2014 Pac-12 174-pound championship match, Bryce Hammond (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) defeated Joe Latham again, this time by technical fall at 6:43 (20-4).
No. 7 Taylor Meeks defeated Sean Pollock (R-Sr., Oceanside, Calif.., Rancho Buena Vista HS) 11-2 at 184 pounds. Cody Crawford earned a 2-0 decision over Matt Williams (R-Fr., Apple Valley, Calif., Sultana HS) in the 197-pound match. Nate Keeve won at heavyweight by a 5-2 count over Alex Encarnarcion-Strand (R-So., Concord, Calif., College Park HS).
No. 14 Ronnie Bressler pinned Sean Nickell (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 2:18 into the 125-pound match. The dual concluded at 133 pounds where Jack Hathaway defeated Ian Nickell (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 3-1.
"We got outhustled today," said CSUB head coach Mike Mendoza."Oregon State is a tough team that wrestles with intensity and overall we didn't match it today. For now, we need to regroup and get ready for tomorrow."
The busy weekend continues Sunday when the Roadrunners travel to Arizona State for a league meet beginning at 5 p.m. (MST). The weekend concludes at Grand Canyon at 8 p.m. (MST) on Sunday.
